Adamson, this was the first federal law that regulated the hours of workers in private companies. Congress passed the Act in order to avoid a nationwide strike. William Charles Adamson (August 13, 1854 – January 3, 1929) was a U.S. Representative from Georgia and a Judge for the United States Customs Court.
